Oscar Schmidt instruments feature a lifetime warranty. About Oscar Schmidt Musical Instruments The Oscar Schmidt Company was founded in 1871 and incorporated in 1911. By the early 1900s, the company had five factories in Europe and a factory on Ferry Street in Jersey City. They made all kinds of stringed instruments, guitars, banjos, mandolins, ukuleles, zithers, and Autoharps. The company prospered through the early 1920s. Oscar Schmidt instruments were sold in many rural parts of the country where no music stores existed. Salesmen distributed the products far and wide, making them available in general, small town furniture and dry goods stores. Country guitar pickers and blues musicians living in areas of the South and in Appalachia, far from the city, frequently played Oscar Schmidt instruments because they were both inexpensive and available locally. But equally important, they were often chosen solely on merits of their superior tone and volume. Today at Oscar Schmidt, premium woods, quality hardware and modest prices create an ideal instrument. Each is inspected and adjusted in the USA by a skilled technician, your assurance for smooth fret ends, precision low action and resonant sound quality. Unequalled standards in easy playing comfort and tone response creates the perfect value... Oscar Schmidt. What's in the Box Oscar Schmidt OU2 Concert Ukulele

Tiptoe Through the Tulips January 8, 2008 Brian McDonald (Portsmouth, RI) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
I have had this instrument for 6 months now and I love it! In my younger days I had tried to master the guitar and I did not feel comfortable with it. The ukulele is extremely easy to play and mastering a dozen basic chords can be done in a few weeks. The OU2 is perhaps not the perfect instrument, but for the beginner it is an incredible buy. I had thought to move up to a more sophisticated instrument if I caught the bug, but after following the advice of other reviewers and upgrading my strings, I am very happy with my sound. A day without strumming my uke is like a day without sunshine.
love the uke November 3, 2006 Jean C. Dise 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This ukulele is a musician's dream! It has wonderful tone quality, making every song you play sound great. Since the strings are nylon, you never have to worry about hurting your fingers... plus that adds to the classic "hawaiian" sound we all love! Honestly, since I paid so little for it (about 50 dollars) I wasn't expecting much, but I'll tell you, it's beautifully crafted and is the envy of all my friends. I love this ukulele and would recommend it to anyone :)
One of the better purchases i've made April 17, 2008 C. Hopkins 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This ukulele has been great. I've had it now for twenty four hours and every free second i have i've been playing it. It seems to be well built, it has good sound, and the strings seem adequate. I've already memorized all of the chords you might need for 99% of the songs out there, though this may be simpler for me because i play guitar. But nonetheless i can strum along now with any song i find a tab for. Other reviewers had mentioned an intonation problem, particularly once you reach the twelfth fret. I don't think my uke has this problem, and my tuner seems to agree with me, as after tuning the string the twelfth fret is in tune as well. However, even if you're ukulele has such a problem, you won't need to be playing on the twelfth fret unless you're doing hardcore solos, in which case you're probably committed to buying more than a sixty dollar uke. I love this instrument, it's fun, fairly easy, and very portable, and it's about as cheap as a good uke can get.
an incredible deal June 12, 2009 Anne-genevieve Bacon (San Francisco, CA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This ukulele has consistently blown me away.
When I first received it, I was wary because it wasn't staying in tune, but I was leaving on a long trip, which is why I'd bought it, and had to bring it with me. After about three days of playing it, it warmed up and now the only thing that will de-tune it is my three year old cousin playing with the tuning knobs.
I play this thing hard; I play it soft; I play it all the way up and down the neck and it stays in tune. This makes it particularly useful when I am using it in performance scenarios, with other instruments, either electric or acoustic. Now and again I have to check in on the C string (I have it tuned as a soprano) as it interestingly can go sharp sometimes, but it really isn't an issue.
The mahogany body is both beautiful and resilient, providing a warm and resonant sound and surviving trips to the Middle East, Africa and now the eastern USA. If you want to see/hear it in action - here is a video of the first song I wrote on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_URutpwlzv4
Just what I wanted June 22, 2008 Vincent Thai 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the first instrument I have ever played in my life. And honestly, this is a great starter for those who want to pick up ukulele playing. This is, of course, not a top tier ukulele, but it is decent enough for those who just want to play a couple of tunes whenever they are bored.
The model of the ukulele lacks any finish and LOOKS (may even feel) like a toy, but is designed decently for any who wish to have a starter ukulele. It sounds great after you spend some time tuning it. It'd be even better if one were to replace the nylon strings with something else, which would definitely increase the quality of the sound.
For a price of $60, this ukulele is good for anyone who just wants to play something. When you decide to get serious, then buy some new strings, or upgrade to a new ukulele.
