Perfect budget instrument..but needs some tweaking December 26, 2005 B. Little (Hamden CT, USA) 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
Not sure why purists froth at the mouth over this little fellow. It's meant to be an entry-level instrument...if you want a $500 Gibson this isn't for you. But for beginners or someone who wants a cheap mandolin to try it's ideal. Sound is pretty good, intonation is proper at the 12th fret and the stain and lacquer finish are high-quality, almost embarassing at this price.
The tall bridge is the only caveat, which makes the action way too high. So I used a dremel tool to grind the bridge lower as well as the back of the nut on the neck, with great results to the action. I also used a file across the frets to level everything out. I had never done this before but read how to do it online. So along with spending so little on it I learned how to be a mandolin luthier(!) Very satisfying.
Great value for decent mandolin January 2, 2007 A. Customer (Portland, Or) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had no problems with this instument. No adjustments on the bridge or nut was needed. I would say, I am glad I bought an extra set of strings because the factory strings are weak and will break easily. This is my first mando but I have done some shopping around, and this is the best value for a usable insturment. The sound is truly amazing for $50, sounds as good as the $300 fender.
Mandolin June 27, 2007 D. McSherry 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The mandolin I purchased was given as a gift for Father's Day. The recipient has already learned to play it quite well. Except for going to the bathroom, I don't think he has put it down for more than an hour!!!! It is truly being enjoyed by the recipient and his listeners.
Great Sound for Cheap Price March 30, 2009 Scammaj (Holland, MI) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Obviously this mandolin is not going to perform at levels of higher quality instruments, but I am still amazed at how well it sounds and plays. For such a cheap price this is the ideal mandolin for a beginner. I found the quality comparable to mandolins that go for 100 dollars more. If you are just starting to play this is a great investment.

I bought this for my son who is 12, He just loves it. Nice instrument. No problems with it. My son had someone who is a musician tune it for him.
