| Customer Reviews: vary good deal October 27, 2009 Danny Hall 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this back in about july and a still play it about every day.At first it kept going out of tune but then i relized the string just need to be streched(witch will happen with time or you can do it your self.) The tuneing is G C E A. But it's a vary good beginer ukulele and perfict for playing "nevershoutnever" songs and "bob marly" and what not. I think thats all. Oh yeah it came in vary good condition. One more thing once the strings are streched and broken in it will hold tune for about a month in a cold damp basment but if you keep it in a normel living room or bed room it will hold tune for about two and a half months.
Beautiful Uk February 1, 2010 Christopher 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this Ukulele for my wife for Chirstmas and she loves it! The Lanikai Kohala Ukulele is beautiful, the wood finish is somthing you would see on Ukuleles costing twice as much. I looked at alot of Ukuleles at two different music stores, prices started at $60.00 and went up, this one is the best out there, it's a great deal for a beautiful Ukulele.
Moonlight Bay never sounded so good!
Nice Uke For Semi-Serious Playing August 9, 2009 AJC (Bay Area, CA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
While on a recent trip to Hawaii, I tried to acquire a decent ukulele for beach playing. I had read about this particular uke before leaving, but none of the stores seemed to carry it - Bob's Ukuleles in Waikiki in particular listed it online for $42, but didn't have it when I went to check it out. They said it wasn't a good quality uke (so why was/is it still listed on their website!?) and their alternatives at that price point seemed cheap and un-musical. This seems like an unscrupulous strategy of pushing higher-end ukes ranging up to many 1000s of dollars. As I was not prepared to make any such decision, especially after shelling out $$$s for the trip, I resolved to buy this uke after returning home. Woodwind and Brasswind, through Amazon, seemed to offer the best price, and my order arrived as expected in great shape.
As a guitar player, I require a minimal level of playability. This uke certainly fits the bill. The intonation is not perfect, but is quite acceptable - I think this can be difficult to achieve on such a small instrument, and may be why high-end ukes are so pricey. I've replaced the high-G string with a wound Hilo low-G (tuned an octave lower), and now have a mini-guitar that I really wished I had during my holiday. Though I wished I had done all of this beforehand, I'm glad that I didn't succumb to buying a cheap unplayable or over-priced uke like those seen everywhere in Hawaii. Next trip, this guy will easily fit into my suitcase for some beach playing.
